Your first little discovery starts here.
Learn how to upgrade, mutate and claim your first chapter reward in Pocket Mutant Lab.
Two ways to make something new
- Upgrade: 3 identical creatures at the same level become 1 creature at the next level. Drag one onto another when you have a third match, or use the guide’s Upgrade button.
- Mutate: a recipe consumes 2 different creatures and creates a new level 1 species. Tap Mutate to open the recipe book, check the ingredients, then press the recipe’s Mutate button to confirm.

Your first chapter: discover Mushroom Frog
- Open the game and follow the coach below the board to complete your first upgrade. Highlighted creatures show which ingredients you need.
- Look at your research goal at the top. Tap Next step and follow the ingredient hint. If a creature is missing, hatch it with game coins.
- With a Button Shroom and Moss Frog ready, open Recipe and confirm Mutate. Both ingredients are consumed and your new Mushroom Frog appears on the board.
- Enjoy the discovery reveal, then follow the Claim prompt to collect your research reward. Your first island unlocks, and the next chapter begins.

Know your buttons
- Next step / Hatch: guides the next action for your research: upgrade, hatch, open a recipe or claim a reward. Check the action and coin cost shown before you tap.
- Mutate: opens the mutation book. The ready count shows how many recipes have the required ingredients.
- Orders: delivers requested creatures for rewards. Delivery consumes those creatures, so check before confirming.
- Collection: shows your permanent discoveries and creature details, even after a creature leaves the board.
- My island / Choose: shows research chapters, lets you choose a discovery goal and manage favorite residents.
- Supplies: opens supplies and surprise eggs. You can also reach Help & save to export a backup.
Board full, or missing ingredients?
Look for 3 matching creatures to upgrade or a ready mutation recipe. Orders can free up space; check the ingredients before delivering. Hatching needs a free cell and enough coins, and the game explains when either is missing.
What counts as finishing?
Complete four research chapters, discover Solar Banana Cat and claim the final reward to finish your first expedition. Afterward, keep collecting species, upgrading creatures and completing milestones. Later chapters need more ingredients and planning.
